The SSTAR Lab conducts original research and evaluation on issues related to college opportunity and student success. Across all our work, we prioritize the practical side of research and promote ongoing improvement to better support current and future students.
We currently engage in projects related to college opportunity and student success across three topic areas: Geography, Financial Aid, and Policy and Funding.
Geography
The SSTAR Lab brings "geography of opportunity" into higher education research beyond just college choice literature (e.g., geography of ROI, geography of student loan debt, mapping rural colleges, etc.).
Financial Aid
The SSTAR Lab studies innovative approaches to improving college affordability and the impact of financial aid policies on student outcomes like college completion and student debt.
Policy and Funding
Our aim by engaging projects in this area is to advance conversations about how state funding to postsecondary institutions can better reflect the full range of students institutions serve.
