In the fall of 2020, the University of Wisconsin-Madison’s School of Education launched the Teacher Pledge program. This program is designed to strengthen and diversify Wisconsin’s teacher workforce by providing forgivable loans and covering testing/licensing fees to students enrolled in UW-Madison teacher education programs. It is administered by the School of Education’s Teacher Education Center and participants pledge to teach full-time in a Wisconsin pre-kindergarten through 12th-grade school for three to four years after graduating. Over the next five years, the SSTAR Lab will be evaluating the implementation and impacts of this program. We will be collecting and analyzing a wide range of qualitative and quantitative data to improve the administration of this program and to evaluate its efficacy.
